What They Do:

  • Centre de salut de Vila is a primary public health center (Centro de Salud) providing comprehensive medical care, including a specialized Mental Health Unit (Unidad de Salud Mental), family medicine, and 24/7 emergency services (SUAP).
  • It serves as the main public gateway for healthcare in Ibiza town, integrating social and medical services.
  • Why Tourists Choose Them:

  • 24/7 Emergency Care: The SUAP unit is available for non-life-threatening emergencies at any hour.
  • EHIC Acceptance: As a public facility, it is the primary point for European tourists using the European Health Insurance Card.
  • Strategic Location: Situated near the Marina Botafoch and Pacha area, making it highly accessible from major hotels.
  • Key Services:

  • Mental Health Unit: Specialized psychiatric and psychological support (usually via referral).
  • 24-Hour Urgent Care (SUAP): Immediate treatment for minor injuries, infections, or acute illness.
  • General Medicine & Nursing: Routine check-ups and primary health monitoring.
  • Standout Features:

  • Publicly funded healthcare ensuring standardized medical protocols.
  • On-site Mental Health specialists for both adults and children.
  • Centralized location with high accessibility for those without private transport.
  • What Customers Say

The facility holds a 2.8-star rating, which is typical for public health centers in Spain. Positive feedback often centers on the professionalism of the medical staff and the efficiency of the 24-hour emergency department (SUAP) during off-peak hours. Patients have praised specific doctors for their thoroughness. Common complaints involve the administrative side: difficulty reaching the center by phone, long wait times for non-emergency appointments, and occasionally brusque treatment at the reception desk. Tourists often find it a reliable 'safety net' for minor emergencies, though they note that English proficiency is higher among doctors than administrative staff. Overall sentiment is that it is a functional, essential public service rather than a luxury wellness experience.

About This Practice

  • Centre de salut de Vila (CS Vila) is a cornerstone of the Balearic Health Service (Ib-Salut) in Ibiza. While it functions as a primary care clinic, it houses a vital Mental Health Unit (Unidad de Salud Mental) providing psychiatric and psychological care to the local and expat community.
  • It is specifically designed to handle the high-density population of Ibiza Town and the surrounding tourist zones. For tourists, it serves as the first point of contact for public medical assistance, especially for those holding a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
  • Facility & Team

  • The facility is a multi-story public building equipped for primary diagnostics, blood testing, and urgent care.
  • The team consists of licensed Family Physicians, Pediatricians, Nurses, Psychiatrists, and Clinical Psychologists.
  • As a public institution, all staff hold official Spanish medical credentials. While Spanish and Catalan are the official languages, many medical professionals speak English, though administrative staff may have limited English proficiency.
  • What to Expect During Your Visit

  • For emergencies (SUAP), patients enter through the dedicated urgent care entrance. You will be triaged by a nurse based on severity; wait times vary significantly depending on the season and time of day.
  • For mental health or specialist services, a referral from a GP (Médico de Cabecera) is typically required for non-emergency cases.
  • The environment is clinical and functional, prioritizing medical efficiency over aesthetic luxury.
  • Location & Accessibility

  • Located on Av. 8 d'Agost, it is within walking distance of the Ibiza Marina, Talamanca beach, and several major nightclubs and hotels.
  • The facility is fully wheelchair accessible with ramps and wide elevators.
  • Public transport (bus) stops are located nearby, and there is limited street parking in the surrounding blue zones.
  • Why Tourists Choose Them

  • It is the most cost-effective option for EU citizens due to EHIC integration.
  • Unlike private clinics, it is connected to the broader public hospital network (Can Misses), ensuring seamless transfer if a condition worsens.
  • It provides a 24-hour medical presence in the heart of the tourist district.
  • Safety & Standards

  • Operates under the strict health and safety regulations of the Spanish National Health System.
  • Follows standardized protocols for infectious diseases and psychiatric emergencies.
  • Booking & Practical Info

  • Appointments for residents are booked via the 'Cita Previa' app or website. Tourists with urgent needs should present themselves at the SUAP (Emergency) desk with a passport and EHIC/Insurance documents.
  • For non-EU tourists, upfront payment is usually required, which can then be claimed back from travel insurance.

    Tourist Information

Tourists should bring their physical Passport and the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) for free or reduced-cost care. Non-EU tourists will be billed at standard public rates; ensure you request a full invoice for travel insurance reimbursement. The 24-hour emergency service (SUAP) is a walk-in service—no appointment needed. For English speakers, it is helpful to have symptoms written down or a translation app ready, as the reception staff may not be fluent in English. The center is located near the Pacha roundabout, making it easily accessible by taxi from any part of Ibiza Town.

    Languages Spoken

    Insurance Information

Accepts the Spanish Public Health System (Seguridad Social) and the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC/GHIC). Private travel insurance is not billed directly; patients must pay the public rate (Tasas) and seek reimbursement from their provider. Private Spanish insurance (e.g., Sanitas, Adeslas) is generally NOT accepted here, as those patients are usually directed to private hospitals like Policlínica Nuestra Señora del Rosario.
