Full Details

Farmacia Bartolomé Marí Cava de Llano is a cornerstone of healthcare in the heart of Ibiza Town (Eivissa). Situated on the iconic Passeig de Vara de Rey, the pharmacy occupies a prime location that is easily accessible to both local residents and the thousands of international tourists who visit the island annually. This central boulevard is the social hub of the city, located just a short walk from the historic Dalt Vila, the bustling port area, and numerous high-end hotels and boutique accommodations. For travelers staying in the city center or arriving by ferry, this pharmacy represents the most convenient point of access for medical supplies and professional health advice.

While the pharmacy operates under extended daily hours—typically from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM—it is important for visitors to understand the Spanish 'Farmacia de Guardia' system. In Ibiza, pharmacies rotate 24-hour duty shifts to ensure the public has access to medication at any hour of the night. Farmacia Bartolomé Marí Cava de Llano participates in this rotation. When they are not the designated 24-hour pharmacy on duty, they post a clear notice in their window directing customers to the nearest open facility. This system is a legal requirement in Spain, ensuring that even in the middle of the night, medical needs are met.

One of the standout features of this pharmacy is its commitment to serving the international community. Given its location in a high-traffic tourist zone, the pharmacists and assistants are proficient in English. This is crucial for tourists who may struggle to explain specific symptoms or medical histories in Spanish. The staff is trained to provide medication counseling in English, explaining dosage instructions, potential side effects, and contraindications clearly. This level of communication helps prevent medication errors and provides peace of mind to travelers far from home.

Regarding prescription fulfillment, the pharmacy is well-versed in handling both local Spanish prescriptions and those from foreign doctors. For visitors from the European Union, a standardized 'European Prescription' is generally accepted without issue. For tourists from outside the EU (such as the US, Canada, or Australia), the process can be more complex due to Spanish regulations. While the pharmacy can often provide over-the-counter alternatives for non-restricted medications, they may advise visitors to see a local private doctor to have a foreign prescription transcribed onto a Spanish format for controlled substances. The pharmacists are helpful in navigating these legal requirements and can often recommend nearby clinics if a local prescription is necessary.

Beyond prescription medications, the pharmacy stocks an extensive range of over-the-counter (OTC) products. This includes common travel ailments such as digestive issues, motion sickness for those taking ferries to Formentera, and pain relief. Given Ibiza's climate, they carry a premium selection of sun care products, high-SPF sunscreens, and after-sun treatments. They also stock specialized travel health products like high-strength insect repellents and jellyfish sting treatments, which are essential for beach-goers. For families traveling with infants, there is a dedicated section for baby care, including specialized formulas, diapers, and dermatologically tested skin products.

Medical supplies and health screenings are also a core part of their service offering. The pharmacy provides blood pressure monitoring, COVID-19 rapid antigen tests (essential for certain travel requirements or peace of mind), and basic first aid supplies such as bandages, antiseptics, and supports for minor injuries. They also stock a variety of high-end European dermocosmetics and skincare brands, which are often sought after by international visitors for their quality and efficacy. For those requiring emergency contraception, the pharmacy provides 'the morning-after pill' discreetly and without a prescription, following Spanish health protocols.

Accessibility is excellent, as the Passeig de Vara de Rey is a pedestrian-friendly area. While you cannot park a car directly in front of the door, there are several large public parking lots within a 5-minute walk (such as the Es Pratet parking). Public transport links are also nearby, with the main bus terminal and taxi ranks located just a few hundred meters away. For tourists staying in nearby hotels like the Gran Hotel Montesol or the various apartments in the port area, the pharmacy is a mere two-minute walk. Their long-standing experience serving the international yachting community and hotel guests makes them one of the most reliable and 'tourist-friendly' pharmacies on the island.
