Full Details
Farmàcia Marí Torres is a long-standing pharmaceutical establishment located in the heart of Ibiza Town (Eivissa), specifically on Avinguda d'Espanya, 63. This location is one of the most strategic for international visitors, as it sits on a primary artery connecting the city center with the main residential areas and is within walking distance of the Port of Ibiza and the central bus station (CETIS). For tourists staying in nearby hotels or those visiting from cruise ships, this pharmacy serves as a critical health hub. The pharmacy is easily recognizable by its traditional green cross signage, a universal symbol for medical assistance in Spain. Accessibility is a key feature, with the storefront located at street level, making it convenient for those with strollers or limited mobility.
Regarding operating hours, Farmàcia Marí Torres follows a traditional Spanish split-shift schedule during the weekdays, closing for a siesta period between 2:00 PM and 4:30 PM. While the pharmacy is closed on Sundays and Saturday afternoons, it participates in the 'Farmacia de Guardia' (Duty Pharmacy) rotation system. In Ibiza, pharmacies take turns staying open 24 hours to ensure that the population has access to emergency medication at any time of day or night. When this specific pharmacy is not on duty, a list is always posted on the front door indicating the nearest open 24-hour pharmacy. This system is vital for tourists who may experience medical emergencies outside of standard business hours.
For international travelers, communication is often a primary concern. Farmàcia Marí Torres typically employs staff who can communicate in English, which is essential given its location in a high-traffic tourist zone. This allows for clear medication counseling, ensuring that visitors understand dosage instructions and potential side effects. The pharmacists are trained to handle a wide variety of inquiries, ranging from minor ailments like jellyfish stings or sunstroke—common issues in the Balearic Islands—to more complex prescription management.
Prescription fulfillment for tourists is a streamlined process here. For travelers from the European Union, the pharmacy can often process electronic prescriptions if they are presented correctly, though paper prescriptions are still widely used. For visitors from outside the EU, such as the US or UK, it is highly recommended to carry a physical copy of the prescription. While Spanish law is strict regarding certain medications (like antibiotics or strong painkillers), the pharmacists can often assist in finding over-the-counter (OTC) alternatives for minor issues or guide tourists on how to visit a local 'Centro de Salud' (Health Center) to get a Spanish-equivalent prescription.
In terms of stock, Farmàcia Marí Torres is well-equipped with a broad range of products beyond just medicine. They carry a significant inventory of travel health essentials including high-factor sunscreens, insect repellents, and after-sun care. Additionally, they stock a variety of first-aid supplies, baby care products (formula, diapers, bottles), and high-end European dermo-cosmetics which are often sought after by tourists. For those requiring health screenings, the pharmacy offers services such as blood pressure monitoring and COVID-19 rapid antigen tests, which are useful for travelers needing to check their status before returning home or attending events.
Payment at Farmàcia Marí Torres is versatile. While some smaller pharmacies in Spain may prefer cash for low-value items, this location accepts major credit cards including Visa and Mastercard. It is worth noting that for very small purchases (under 5-10 Euros), having some cash on hand is helpful. The pharmacy provides official receipts which are necessary for tourists looking to claim reimbursement from their travel insurance providers. The proximity to local landmarks and the central shopping district makes it an ideal stop for visitors who need to restock their medical kits while exploring the historic streets of Eivissa. Whether you are dealing with a minor travel-related illness or need to fulfill a regular prescription, Farmàcia Marí Torres offers a reliable, professional, and accessible service for the international community in Ibiza.
