    About This Practice

  • IVO (Instituto Veterinario Oftalmológico) is a specialized center focused entirely on the health of animal eyes.
  • It serves as a critical resource for the Ibiza community, providing a level of care usually only found in major mainland cities like Barcelona.
  • The clinic specializes in treating dogs, cats, and exotic animals, making it a versatile choice for any pet owner visiting the island.
  • Their expertise is particularly valuable for expats who require long-term management of chronic conditions like keratoconjunctivitis sicca (dry eye) or glaucoma.
  • Facility & Team

  • The clinic is led by Dr. Paco Simó, who has over 30 years of experience in the field and is a pioneer in feline cataract surgery.
  • The facility features advanced technological suites for ocular ultrasound, electroretinography (to check retinal function), and high-resolution photography of the eye's interior.
  • The surgical theater is equipped for delicate microsurgery, utilizing operating microscopes and laser technology.
  • Staff are accustomed to international clients and can communicate effectively in English and Spanish.
  • What to Expect During Your Visit

  • The process typically begins with a comprehensive eye exam involving pressure testing (tonometry) and tear production tests.
  • Because they are specialists, wait times are generally low once an appointment is secured, as the clinic operates on a strict schedule.
  • The approach is clinical yet compassionate, focusing on saving the eye and maintaining the animal's quality of life.
  • Location & Accessibility

  • Located on Carrer des Jondal, the clinic is situated in a convenient commercial area of Ibiza Town (Eivissa).
  • It is easily accessible from the E-20 ring road, making it a quick drive from popular tourist hubs like Playa d'en Bossa, San José, and Santa Eulalia.
  • The facility is on the ground floor with direct street access, ensuring it is wheelchair and pet-carrier friendly.
  • Ample street parking is generally available in the surrounding area.
  • Why Tourists Choose Them

  • Travelers often find themselves at IVO following an emergency, such as a foreign object in the eye or a sudden trauma during a hike.
  • The clinic provides a level of specialized equipment (like ERG) that standard island vets do not possess.
  • They offer detailed medical reports that can be shared with the owner's primary vet back in their home country.
